Attendance Allowance?
Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance is a tax-free UK benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision because of an illness or disability.
It’s paid by the Department for Work and Pensions at one of two weekly rates (£76.70 or £114.60, from April 2026), depending on whether help is needed during the day, at night, or both.
It’s not means-tested, so savings and income don’t affect eligibility, and you don’t need to already have a carer in place to qualify — many people living alone claim successfully.
It can be spent however you choose, including towards care and support at home.
